With less than two weeks to go until the European Aquatics Short Course Swimming Championships Lublin 2025 get underway another wave of top class participants has been confirmed.
The latest tranche of team announcements for the event – which runs in Poland from December 2 to 7 – includes swimmers who have earned world and European success in the space of the last year, as well as a host of medallists from the last edition of these Championships at Otopeni in 2023.
Belgium’s team includes 20-year-old Roos Vanotterdijk, who won women’s 50m butterfly bronze and 100m butterfly silver – in a national record of 55.84 – at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
Earlier in the summer she came away from the EA U23 Championships in Samorin with three golds and two silvers. Her haul from last year’s EA Championships in Belgrade was a gold, silver and bronze.
Vanotterdijk’s colleague Lucas Henveaux, who won men’s 400m freestyle bronze in a national record of 3:37.91 at Otopeni 2023, claimed world 200m freestyle bronze at the short course Championships in Budapest last December, clocking a national record of 1:41.13.
Estonia includes the prodigious 18-year-old Eneli Jefimova, who won the European women’s 100m breaststroke title last year and added world short course bronze in the same event last December.
This year Jefimova, who made her Olympic debut in Tokyo aged 14, won the 50m and 100m breaststroke titles at the EA U23 Championships. She will be defending her 100m breaststroke title from Otopeni 2023.
Germany meanwhile will be able to call on Isabel Gose, who won 1500m gold and 800m silver at last December’s World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in Budapest.
Her team-mates include the 2024 world 100m butterfly champion Angelina Kohler, who won 200m butterfly gold and 100m butterfly silver at Otopeni 2023, and Ole Braunschweig, men’s 50m backstroke silver medallist in Otopeni two years ago.
Israel’s 2024 women’s world 400m medley champion Anastasia Gorbenko, who won world and European short course gold in 2021, is also down to compete in Poland.
Monaco will be represented by its Paris 2024 Games co-flagbearer Lisa Pou, who won world 10km women bronze in Singapore and went on to secure the overall women’s title in the 2025 EA Open Water Cup series.
Turkey will be calling upon 18-year-old Kuzey Tuncelli, the European 1500m champion who went on to add world short course bronze in that event last December.
Despite suffering an untimely foot injury in a training accident, Tuncelli won two golds at this summer’s EA Junior Championships in Samorin and added two more golds at the World Aquatics Junior Championships in Otopeni.
Tuncelli’s team-mates include the European 50m breaststroke champion Emre Sakci, who won joint-silver at last year’s World short course Championships in Budapest.
Austria has selected the 21-year-old who won breaststroke gold at 50m, 100m and 200m in this year’s EA U23 Championships – Luka Mladenovic
Also included is Julia Berger, winner of the 50m freestyle skins event at the EA U23 Championships.
Denis Popescu, who won 100m butterfly gold and 50m butterfly bronze at the EA U23 Championships, is in the Romania team, while the hosts of that event in Samorin, Slovakia, has named the swimmer who earned women’s 50m butterfly silver and 200m medley bronze at those Championships, Tamara Potocka.
The Greek team includes Anna Ntountounaki, who won 50m butterfly gold and 100m butterfly bronze at Otopeni 2023.
Denmark has named European 200m butterfly champion Helena Rosendahl Bach and 18-year-old Martine Damborg, who has won five golds, five silvers and two bronzes in European Aquatics Junior Championships competition.
Sweden’s team includes Louise Hansson, who won three golds, a silver and a bronze at the last edition of these Championships in Romania.
The Czech Republic will be calling upon the services of Barbora Seemanova, who won women’s 100m and 200m freestyle gold at the 2024 European Aquatics Championships, as well as earning 400m freestyle silver and 200m medley bronze.
