Aquatics Social Responsibility (ASR)

The French Swimming Federation (FFN), fully aware of its responsibilities, is committed to organizing the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in accordance with the criteria of the French reference framework of the Charter of the 15 Sustainable Commitments of the Ministry of Sports, the “Terrain d’égalité” label and the European Aquatics GOLD Sustainable Event Certification, to make it an event committed promoting swim learning, accessible to everyone, and taking into account current environmental and societal challenges. The aim is to enable the entire French and European sports ecosystem to benefit from the legacy of this large-scale eco-responsible initiative for the organization of future events.

For athletes, staff and delegation members, these commitments are reflected in the implementation of the following measures:

No more plastic bottles on pool decks and open water venues: no water bottles will be distributed on site in order to actively contribute to eliminating single-use plastic and respect the French regulation on this topic. Remember to bring your own reusable water bottles!
Choose walking and soft mobility solutions: we have worked on selecting accommodations located close to training and competition venues in order to encourage soft mobility and provide greater flexibility in your travel. A collective shuttle system will also be put in place.
Choose the right waste bin: help us reduce and manage the waste generated by the event by recycling and following the sorting guidelines in place.
Enjoy a safe and inclusive environment: we strongly fight against all forms of discrimination and violence, including gender-based and sexual violence and harassment. An alert and reporting system will be in place, along with comprehensive support and assistance services. Feel free to use them!

In addition, numerous other initiatives will be implemented in collaboration with local stakeholders and our partners to amplify our commitments around the following key themes: swimming education; accessibility policies for people with disabilities; responsible food consumption; the preservation of water and energy resources, among others.

The 2026 European Aquatics Championships want to leverage the event’s media coverage to raise awareness and promote consideration of sustainability issues.
