Sylvia Hernández, one of Europe’s most experienced artistic swimming coaches and a coach educator for both the Spanish and Portuguese Federations, will lead a Coaches Clinic in Luxembourg on Wednesday 3 June; the day before the start of the European Youth Artistic Swimming Championships.

The clinic will take place at La COQUE – Amphithéâtre, starting at 19:45 CEST, and is free to attend in person for all coaches present at the Championships. The session will also be available to watch live via the European Aquatics Academy platform, with online tickets available for €10.

Born and raised in Madrid, Hernández has worked in synchronised and artistic swimming for more than 30 years, coaching athletes from beginner level to world-class competition. She holds a Ph.D. in High Performance Sport from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha and studied Sport Science at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

She has served as a national coach in Portugal, Switzerland and Spain, and is a coach educator for both the Spanish and Portuguese Federations.

Most recently, Hernández played a central role in coaching the Portuguese duet to a top-8 finish and Olympic qualification at the 2024 World Championships in Doha.

Her clinic will focus on two of the most technically demanding areas of artistic swimming: barracudas and active flexibility in the water. The session will cover the exercises and training materials she uses to develop these elements, the different technical approaches she applies depending on swimmers’ levels and abilities, and corrections for the most common difficulties coaches encounter.

Hernández will also share practical coaching adaptations drawn from her experience working across multiple national programmes, making the session relevant to coaches working at club, national and elite level alike.
