European Aquatics has announced the launch of its new Level 1 coaches’ courses, providing aspiring coaches with a structured educational pathway in artistic swimming, diving, swimming and water polo.
Designed to equip coaches with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to perform effectively as assistant coaches, the programme represents an important step in European Aquatics’ commitment to coach education and the long-term development of aquatic sports across the continent.
The Level 1 courses combine sport science education with discipline-specific coaching content, ensuring participants develop both theoretical understanding and practical coaching competencies. The curriculum covers key topics including anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology and sport integrity, alongside modules tailored to each aquatic discipline.
Delivered in a hybrid format, each course consists of 63.5 hours of learning and is divided into two phases.
The first phase includes 42.5 hours of online learning through the European Aquatics e-learning platform, allowing participants to complete lessons and assessments remotely.
This is followed by 21 hours of face-to-face training delivered over three days, where coaches participate in practical sessions and discipline-specific assessments.
The in-person component has been designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities and practical application of coaching principles within real aquatic environments. European Aquatics plans to organise these sessions in multiple locations across Europe, making the courses accessible to coaches from different regions.
The new Level 1 coaches’ courses form part of European Aquatics’ wider education strategy, supporting National Federations in the development of qualified coaches and strengthening coaching standards throughout the aquatic community.
National Federations are encouraged to promote the courses within their coaching networks and aquatic communities, helping to create the next generation of coaches across artistic swimming, diving, swimming and water polo.
