European Aquatics has introduced a new Coach Certification and Recognition Programme as part of its Strategic Plan 2024-2028, aiming to professionalise coaching, promote lifelong learning, and support coach mobility across Europe.
Led by the European Aquatics Academy (EAA), the initiative offers a structured three-level certification system: Level 1 (assistant coach), Level 2 (developmental coach), and Level 3 (performance coach), across all aquatic disciplines. These courses are supported by online learning and in-person clinics, accessible through the EAA’s e-learning platform.
To recognise the diverse routes through which coaches gain expertise, the programme includes two key pathways: Recognition of Prior Award (RPA) for those with existing formal qualifications, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for those with experience gained through informal or non-traditional means. Coaches whose qualifications have been certified by European Aquatics can apply via an express route, while others may submit individual applications for evaluation under normal or comprehensive tracks.
Certification by European Aquatics brings a range of benefits, including cross-border recognition, increased credibility, access to exclusive learning resources, and membership in a growing professional community. It also ensures consistency in coaching standards across member National Federations.
Certification is valid for two years and can be renewed by completing approved development activities, such as attending clinics, completing online courses, or contributing to coaching education within their country or federation.
Fourteen National Federations have already joined the initiative, with their courses certified by European Aquatics:

Applications are now open for both National Federations and individual coaches at eaacademy.eu. This programme reflects European Aquatics’ commitment to high standards, coach development, and a stronger, more connected aquatics community across the continent.
