The schedule and key information for the European Aquatics Congress and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Conference in Belfast on 27-28 September 2024 has been released.
The one-day conference, which is being held at the Hilton Hotel, is themed “Building Vibrant Sport Communities Through Embracing Change,” and will bring together thought leaders, athletes, and administrators to discuss and promote DEI within the aquatic sports community.
The event is open to everyone, be they working within the swimming world or the general public, with bookings open until noon on 26 September 2024.
Following networking and refreshments at 0930, the conference will open with welcome speeches by European Aquatics President Antonio da Silva, European Aquatics DEIB Chair/CEO Swim Ireland Sarah Keane and Sammy Douglas, representing the Mayor of Belfast Micky Murray.
It will be followed by panel discussions titled “Dive Into The Why For DEI” and “Best Practice DEI Models”.
Lunch will be followed by a feedback session and the announcement of the European Aquatics Charter.
Mamobo Ogoro – a Social Psychologist and multi award-winning social entrepreneur – will lead an hour-long session into “Cultural Competencies” and “Unconscious Bias”.
The final seminar of the day will study the creation of a comprehensive media and marketing strategy with representation the key to attracting and engaging all audiences.
The European Aquatics DEIB Commission will moderate a 15-minute conference takeaways discussion before President da Silva’s closing statement with the day due to end at 1645.
