Bjelovar in Croatia will host next year’s European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, European Aquatics confirmed today.
The continent’s most talented swimmers will gather in this central city to compete between June 29 and July 4 at a brand new pool built within the major new Wellovar pool complex at a cost of 51 million euros – the largest project in the city’s history.
The European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships Bjelovar 2027 will follow the highly successful recent staging of these Championships in Munich’s 1972 Olympic pool.
Croatia’s Josip Varvodic, European Aquatics’ First Vice President and President of both the Croatian Swimming Association and the Croatian Olympic Committee, commented:
“Hosting the European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in 2027 at this magnificent new facility is a great honour for Croatia.
“This award recognises the decision to invest in major outdoor sporting events as a means of promoting the city and region internationally and enhancing its profile.
“We are grateful to European Aquatics for the trust they have placed in Bjelovar, and we will ensure we are ready to welcome athletes, delegations and fans from across Europe, guaranteeing the highest standards of hospitality, organisation and a warm welcome.”

“Today’s decision by European Aquatics confirms that the City of Bjelovar has gained recognition not only for its investments in sports infrastructure – totalling over 100 million euros in the last two years alone – but also as a city capable of hosting major international sports competitions.
“Wellovar is one of Croatia’s most modern swimming pool complexes; it was built with the vision of becoming a national hub for the development of aquatic sports in Croatia, as well as attracting major international sports events to Bjelovar.
“Hosting the European Aquatics Junior Championships will bring thousands of visitors to our city, generate international exposure and new economic opportunities, and further confirm Bjelovar’s ability to host top-tier European events.
“I would like to thank the Croatian Swimming Federation, the Croatian Olympic Committee, and everyone involved in preparing the bid.
“Finally, a big thank to European Aquatics for recognizing Bjelovar’s efforts and readiness to host such a major event. Now, the real work begins: organizing a Championship that Europe will remember.”
